About Arquia Grants / San Fernando Royal Academy, Research in New York

The Arquia Foundation and the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts have noted the lack of specific support currently available for the development of research projects in the field of architecture. That is why both institutions have signed a collaboration agreement to launch the Arquia Research Grants programme, in order to create the conditions and provide the means to foster the completion of research projects by architects.

With the aim of promoting research in the field of architecture, the Arquia Foundation and the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts, will award a grant for an innovative or research project in the field of architecture in New York, which will contribute to making the Royal Academy an international experimental laboratory and platform of Spanish architecture. The grant will run for a period of six months and is aimed at graduate architects.

The grant allows architects to develop a research project during six months under the framework of a prestigious academic institution in New York, with the benefit of living in one of the cities considered as a centre of innovation that is very active in cultural creation and the diffusion of knowledge.

Reference institutions for the development of the research grant are the School of Architecture at Columbia University, the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the Instituto Cervantes in New York.

The programme is structured around annual calls, via which successive jury panels select innovative and viable projects with a potential impact on the field of architecture.
The launch of the call, as well as the selection and award of the grant, occurs in the second quarter of the year. The research project will begin in September of that year and will last for six months.
