Arquia/topics 34: "Introducción al urbanismo" (introduction to urban planning)

03 ENERO 2012 / PUBLICATIONS

No. 34 of the arquia/topics collection 'Introducción al urbanismo. La evolución de las ciudades: la lección de la Antigüedad' (introduction to urban planning. The evolution of cities: the lesson of antiquity), Marcel Poëte, is on sale. Urban planning for Marcel Poëte (1866-1950) is both science and art at the same time, which, together with statistical data, handles varied archive knowledge for the old city and many other documents for the modern city, a task that requires the use of chronicles, landscapes, local history, descriptions, etc., even literary works, in order to attain knowledge of the urban setting and then be able to intervene. The finding that the requirements of man are not only material and the existence of the ancient city as a category...

Arquia/thesis 34: "Architecture from the inside, 1925-1937"

20 DICIEMBRE 2011 / PUBLICATIONS
No. 34 of the arquia/thesis collection "La arquitectura desde el interior, 1925-1937" (architecture from the interior), María Melgarejo, is on sale. In 1925, when Le Corbusier proclaimed from the L'Esprit Nouveau pavilion in Paris: "The furniture here does not add its possible architecture to an immobilised architecture. It is architecture in itself", a new way of doing architecture was established, based on its interior. This work was stopped at that time and special attention was paid to the contribution of Charlotte Perriand and Lilly Reich.

Formwork 9: "La Ciudad es de todos" (the city belongs to everyone)

20 DICIEMBRE 2011 / PUBLICATIONS
No. 9 from the Formwork collection, "La ciudad es de todos" (the city belongs to everyone), Paulo Mendes da Rocha is on sale Perhaps the only value of these texts, reflections of older architects, is certain revealing content for younger generations. The ones that must continue. Some words about the reasons for and, above all, emotions related to the extraordinary experience of building, of transforming nature, for the idealised creation of your habitat. The will and the urgency to build the "city for all", always transforming. Being bound to a time of art, science and technique makes architecture a peculiar form of knowledge. Thanks to the formation of a new awareness of nature that is currently occurring worldwide and in a popular way, architecture schools and their teaching open new horizons in the field of universities. A hope for the future. Paulo Mendes da Rocha
