27 ENERO 2014 / AUDIOVISUAL DOCUMENTS

JULIUS SHULMAN (1910-2009) was one of the leading architectural photographers of the twentieth century. Naturalist, educator and commentator on urban form. Shulman developed a close relationship with the architects of the Modern Movement, mainly those working in Southern California, such as Gregory Ain, John Lautner, Richard Neutra and R.M. Schindler. Shulman also captured the work of nearly all modern and progressive American architects since 1936, including Frank Lloyd Wright and Frank Gehry. A prolific author, consultant, lecturer, speaker and editor of his own vast archive, Shulman remained active until his death in July 2009.

The documentary VISUAL ACOUSTICS, narrated by the actor Dustin Hoffman, celebrates the life and career of the photographer Julius Shulman, whose work contributed so much to the promotion of the city of Los Angeles and the "lifestyle of Southern California" during the 1950s and 1960s. Shulman's photographs epitomised the unique beauty of the Modern Movement and unveiled the icons of its structure to the general public. This film is a unique witness to the evolution of modern architecture, whilst at the same time being a cheerful and faithful portrait of a man that knew how to capture and narrate it intelligently through unforgettable images.
