6TH ARQUIA/PRÓXIMA FESTIVAL: RELEVANT PRACTICES - 17 and 18 October 2018 - Auditorium of the CASA DEL LECTOR in MATADERO

17 JULIO 2018 / UPCOMING

The slogan set by the curator for this biennial, RELEVANT PRACTICES, encourages us to reflect on the paradox between the global success of Spanish architecture (2017 Pritzker Prize, the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennial, Spanish architects spearheading international research and teaching in leading architecture schools) which far surpasses its architectural output in recent years, but nevertheless reflects work that is more relevant than ever.

This event celebrating modern Spanish architecture will be attended by:

Iñaki Carnicero, curator of the biennial and the jury, composed of: Pilar Díaz from Paisaje Transversal as the entrants' representative, Héctor Fernández Elorza, representative of the central zone, Iñigo García from VAUMM, representative of the northern zone, María González from Sol89, representative of the southern zone. Montserrat Nogués, sponsor and representative of the Arquia Foundation; Anna Puigjaner from MAIO, representative of the eastern zone.

The event will be organised into the following round tables: Redefining the idea of context, The scale of the small, Conflict as an opportunity and Operational thinking, which will be moderated by Ángel Martínez García-Posada, Jacobo García-Germán, José Juan Barba and Silvia Colmenares respectively.

The creators of the 24 projects selected for this biennial will also be participating:

deAbajoGarcía, Adrià Escolano, Estudio Rellam, Juan Miguel Martínez, Nua Arquitectures, Serrano + Baquero, Rosa Gallardo, Gonzalo Gutiérrez, Joel Padrosa, Ander Rodríguez, Carmen Torres, Arqbag, Arquimaña, Arquitectura Expandida, Cornago & Sánchez, Eeestudio + Zuloark, After Belonging Agency, José Aragüez, Arquitectura a Contrapelo, Bartlebooth, Nomad Garden and Vilaplana & Vilaplana.

We will soon have news about the ARCHITECTURAL TOUR planned for Wednesday 17 October, where we will be joined by prominent architects like Andreia García, Pedro Hernández, Gonzalo Herrero Delicado and Pola Mora.

To round things off, we will have holding a conference with Eduardo Souto de Moura (a member of the jury of the arquia/grants 19th call) and Carrilho de Graça as the only member of the jury panel for the 20th call of the programme, who will be introducing the topic for that call.

The event will finally conclude with the grants award ceremony and the presentation of the awards: Online Vote, Opinion and Communication and the arquia/innova award worth 3,000 euros and the arquia/próxima award for 15,000 euros.
