  • EL ESPACIO DEPORTIVO A CUBIERTO. FORMA Y LUGAR

Multipurpose indoor sports facilities are propounded as field of study, even when these are built to hold one sport in, and of course, they are capable of housing another sports specialities and even different cultural and social events. 20th century indoor sports facilities, some of them have already disappeared, others were transformed, all these are architects´proposals with different intentions. They are not limited to one author, a style, an architectural line or to an only thought. The choice of the projects isn’t casual, it shows a personal attitude and an architectural position.

This thesis, therefore, starts from an initial hypothesis that tries to confirm, on the one hand, the existence of precedents in the architectural tradition which, defining a continuity in the contemporary indoor sports spaces and incorporating in them principles of the past without denying the modernity of architecture, they formulate a typological series that characterizes them of singular way, and simultaneously, that puts in demonstrates the existence of own characteristics, significant of the indoor sports space by means of the application to the above mentioned models of the parameters of specific analyses.

Double hypothesis, which through the development of the thesis content, will confirm the verification or refused degree, and arisen determinations like result of analytic parameters. The thesis is organized in two fields, of course, strongly interrelated: the field of the text and the graphical field of the drawings.

The text of the volume 1 is structured in seven chapters and a few annexes. The introduction and the conclusions correspond to chapters 1 and 7 respectively. The main body of the thesis is between both of them: the parameters of analysis are fixed, a retrospective look is realized in the time, the proposed models of study are codified, setting the particular characteristics of the indoor sports space, defining a set of fundamental parameters and a contrary element is proposed, an option for the future to reach a conclusion, the verification of the initial hypotheses.

Concepts, sports voices which might require explanation are in the annexes.

Simultaneously, the graphical field of the volume 2 is carried out as a systematization of the different redrawn projects which were selected in order to make it possible to bare the appearance, to discover the background and to undergo the reasonable doubt, as premise, all the aspects and questions that are transmitted and whose main source, its origin, is unknown.
