THE ARQUIA FOUNDATION

In 1990, Arquia/bank created the Foundation, and since its inception, its goal has been to promote and disseminate projects of a cultural, social, care, professional and educational nature in the field of architecture, construction, design and urban planning. Throughout these years, it has continued to adapt to the circumstances of each time and in the last decade, has tripled the allocation of funds for its activities in response to the increased needs of the group due to the economic situation.

ABOUT US

Presentation

FOUNDATIONS ARE NOT JUST INSTITUTIONS FOR THE COMMON GOOD, BUT ALSO AN EXPRESSION OF THE FREE SOCIETY IN WHICH WE WANT TO LIVE. WALTER SCHELL

The Arquia Foundation stands out for its ongoing work and interest in promoting architectural culture with the aim of improving the image of the architect and his work in society.
Our values are based on 4 key points: transparency in response to an increasingly demanding society, being crystal clear when showing not only how we manage the resources that we receive, but also showing the selection and award process of the various tenders held by the Foundation, whose common criterion is the annual renewal of each jury or panel.
Communication as a vehicle for reaching all stakeholders of the sector. Due to the intrinsic extraterritorial nature of the Foundation, the website is referenced as a dissemination and meeting point, bringing the reality of professionals to society in a global way, both on a national and international level.
Participation and good government, meaning the ability to optimise resources to the maximum.
The geographical scope of the Arquia Foundation extends throughout the European Union and Latin America, with it carrying out its activities mainly in Spain. Listed in the Register of Foundations of the Ministry of Culture, under no. 167, in its Order of 27 June 1990.

Letter from the director

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to present the 2015 activity report. This year was marked by the 25th anniversary of the Arquia Foundation and we tried to take stock of the milestones achieved over the years, with a broader understanding of our social endeavours and cultural promotion.

An example of this was the tribute that the Arquia Foundation paid to Álvaro Siza, on the occasion of the presentation of the SizaXSiza publication, gathering 3 Pritzker prizes (Siza, Souto de Moura and Rafael Moneo) at the same round table, hosted by the architecture journalist Anatxu Zabalbeascoa, together with the Finnish architect Juhani Pallasmaa and the American critic David Cohn.

Over the years, the Arquia Foundation has adapted to the circumstances of each time and in the last decade, we have tripled the funding for our activities in response to the needs of the group due to the economic situation.

The Arquia Foundation proceeds with the aim of offering innovative proposals and contributing significantly to the architectural heritage field. This is reflected in the CSCAE medal that has been awarded to us, among other important merits, for contributing to the defence of the interests of the profession and of architecture.

It has been a year of consolidating existing programmes and creating new ones in line with the new requirements demanded by the field of architecture.

In one of the most established arquia/grants programmes, we have joined forces with other organisations, such as the Metrópoli Foundation, Factoría Cultural, Royal Academy of Fine Art of San Fernando, Department of Architecture Housing and Land of the Ministry of Public Works, with the aim of expanding the number and thematic diversity of grants offered by the Arquia Foundation.

Best known is our catalogue of publications, which has been recognised by the Publishers Guild for our 25 years of editorial work.
In this vein and coinciding with the institutional goal of bringing the figure of the architect closer to society, the new arquia/contexts collection was created this year, edited together with Los libros de la Catarata and whereby 5 issues have been published.

At the same time the media library has consolidated and expanded its content into two broad areas of inquiry: Film archive (online audiovisual documents) and filmography (audiovisual records)

Our efforts have also focused on consolidating our website as a reference for dissemination and as a meeting place, making our programmes and cultural proposals available to all stakeholders in the field of architecture. We have also strengthened our presence on social networks in order to promote our activities and the most relevant news in the field of architecture, and the Arquia Foundation blog has become a digital meeting point for the profession.

The AF community has grown to over 17,000 registered users. We thank all of you for following and getting involved in our activities, which encourages us to continue improving in order to maintain your trust and interest.

This is a note on the activity carried out via our programmes, the results of which aim to generate small changes in this difficult context.
